Recipient of the 2024 G.E.M. For Guyana Scholarship
We are excited to announce the recipient of one of our scholarships for 2024, Amelia Rambharose!
Amelia recently completed her secondary education at the Saraswati Vidya Niketan, and is now pursuing the Pharmacy Technician Diploma at the University of Guyana. Following this diploma, Amelia will pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Pharmacy at the University of Guyana. In the future, Amelia hopes to own a pharmacy, and become a pharmacist. Through doing so, she hopes to provide medication that is readily available to her community in order to allow all individuals of her community to remain healthy.
With a modest single-income household, the cost of postsecondary education presents itself as a barrier to Amelia’s family. Through this scholarship which cover’s Amelia’s education costs for this semester (up to December 31st, 2024), Amelia will be able to pursue her post secondary education without any financial strains!
Kezia Jeffrey
Associates of Science in Chemistry, University of Guyana
Recipient of the 2024 G.E.M. For Guyana Scholarship
We are excited to announce the recipient of one of our scholarships for 2024, Kezia Jeffrey!
Kezia is currently in her second year of the Associates of Science in Chemistry, and will move on to her Bachelor’s of Science in Chemistry next year. After completing her postsecondary education, Kezia hopes to become a chemical engineer or environmental scientist. She intends on work in laboratory setting doing chemical analysis, data interpretation, and
various environmental initiatives, allowing her to pursue her interest for environmental conservation. Additionally, she hopes to work in the community as a part-time teacher or tutor in addition to her professional career, to make chemistry a more approachable and interesting subject. In this way, she can support and encourage the upcoming generation of scientists and engineers while also making a contribution to the scientific community and the larger educational scene.
With a single parent family, Kezia’s cost of post secondary education serves as a significant strain to herself and her mother. Both herself and her mother attend University, but only her mother provides income to pay for both of her tuition. However, her mother’s income is not enough to completely cover their costs. Through this scholarship, Kezia’s overdue fees, as well as the fees for semester 1 (up to December 31st, 2024), Kezia will be able to pursue her post secondary education without any financial strains!
Rhea Jankinath
Bachelors of Science (Optometry), University of Guyana
Recipient of the York Region Women’s Foundation x G.E.M. For Guyana Scholarship
We are excited to announce the recipient of our first scholarship in partnership with the York Region Women's Foundation, Rhea Jankinath.
Rhea is a 20 year old Guyanese resident currently pursuing a bachelor's degree in Optometry at the University of Guyana. Previously, she completed an associate's degree in Biology, and is working towards opening an optometry clinic for improved eye health within her community.
In addition to her passion for her academics, Rhea volunteers with many organizations within her community. This includes the Blairmont Humanitarian Organization, West Berbice Dharmic Naujawaan, and Bath Shri Krishna Mandir.
With a modest houseld income, this degree places a severe financial burnen on Rhea and her family. With this scholarship, Rhea will be able to pursue her academic endeavors, and remove the financial barriers preventing her from completing this degree!
